Kappa Alpha Order (KA) was established at Washington College in Lexington Virginia in 1865. The Beta Epsilon (BE) Chapter of KA was founded at the University of Delaware in 1904 making it UD's first fraternity.
Kappa Alpha Educational Foundation purchased the property in 1946 from the family of Dr. Steele, a successful Newark doctor who lived and worked here beginning in 1919, the year the house was built. The “KAstle” as it has been come to be known has shaped the lives of hundreds of KA alumni.
KA active members fully embrace the Universtity’s Chapter Assessment Program, designed to promote scholarship, community service, and philanthropy. KA’s mission is to help shape the next generation of leaders by creating a lifetime experience which centers on reverence to God, duty, honor, character and gentlemanly conduct as inspired by Robert E. Lee, our spiritual founder. Dedicated KA-BE alumni in partnership with the University continue to take an active role in ensuring the success of this mission.
